Try A Phone Before You Buy

Samsung released the Android 13-based OneUI 5.1 update earlier this month, adding a bunch of new features and optimizing the software to a healthy extent. I've had a smooth experience so far on my Galaxy S23 Ultra, but there are a number of Samsung users who are having some nagging woes with the latest software update.Notably, most of the bugs and quirks that we've spotted so far on the official Samsung Community forum, Twitter, and Reddit have been limited to Galaxy S22 series phones.

The most common problem that Galaxy S22 users have been raising online is battery drain. Now, feature updates often end up disrupting the battery optimization algorithms, which leads to higher than usual battery consumption, even if the device is idle. One UI 5.1 is proving to be one such update, and so far, we haven't heard of an official solution from Samsung. If your Samsung phone is aggressively sipping up the battery juice and giving you a headache, try some of the temporary solutions listed below until a corrective patch arrives:

You can do your own freeform actions (within the limits of the functions simulated), including important ones like making a call, taking a photo, adding contacts, or sending text messages. You can also try out some of the customization options, but they don't (understandably) actually take effect on the phone demo itself. There are canned demos of key functions, and you can imagine how this can be used as a rich online tutorial for post-purchase. Perhaps users will also be able to generate their own walkthroughs.

In addition to these dynamic elements, the site also offers standard items like user reviews, specs lists, and the ability to buy the phones through vendors (presumably paying TryPhone a fee). I tried to buy a Pearl, which popped up a dialog box to pick between Amazon and another vendor. I chose Amazon and was presented with a page for the Sprint Muziq. Oops!

Tryphone aims to change all this - the newly launched website offers a 'try before you buy' service that lets you play around with the phone, read reviews and view demos before making your buying decision.

Tryphone intends to do two things: help you choose a phone that works well for you, and teach you all about it once you've made up your mind. It offers a range of interactive 'how to' guides, showing you exactly what button to press to do things such as change settings.

The free online service lets you test drive various mobile phones using fully functional virtual handsets. You can click through menus, submenus, navigation keys and applications just as you would when holding a physical handset. You can also compare phones against each other.

"Dummy handsets in shops don't offer the same insight into how a phone operates," Syed said. "You won't get a real feel of what the user interface is like, and how long it takes to load applications."

You'll be able to see what applications and web browsers look like on handsets, and how long they take to load as well. For example, browsing around the Apple iPhone (opens in new tab) on the Tryphone website lets you click through to YouTube and see how long it takes to load a video. This gives an accurate feeling of how speedy the handset is to use in real life.

T-Mobile Network Pass allows you to try T-Mobile's network for up to three months for free, while keeping your existing service with your current carrier. All you need is an unlocked, eligible eSIM-capable phone, and to download the T-Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Then you can experience unlimited high-speed data on the T-Mobile network, all with your own phone, phone number, and apps. A list of eligible phones can be found here.

There's no cost to you and no catch. Just download the T-Mobile app and complete the setup on your phone. Then you can try the T-Mobile network for free for up to three months. Use your own phone and keep your existing phone number and service with your current carrier.

Absolutely! T-Mobile will ship a physical SIM card for them free of charge.

You'll need to contact your current carrier to unlock your phone. Carriers have varying requirements to unlock phones from their network. Once your phone is unlocked you can come back and complete the switch to T-Mobile.

The program will be a short-lived test run; It only applies if you buy the phone between March 20 and April 30, 2023. Once you receive the phone, you must register it within 15 days to be eligible to return it at the end of the test period. Moreover, OnePlus says the full refund will be issued only after an "inspection of the phone." If you break the device during the trial run and try to return it, you probably won't get your money back.

If you've stuck with brands like Motorola or Samsung in the past and want to give something new a try, this is the way to do it. We liked the OnePlus 11 5G quite a bit in our evaluation. The bright display, stellar performance, high-speed charging, and excellent 5G connectivity impressed us. Plus, the price is more reasonable than the cost of other high-end flagship phones. It's hard to complain about a device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that starts at $699 when some competitors cost nearly twice as much.

Google's Pixel phones are our favorite Android phones here at WIRED, and they have been for a few years. They have industry-leading cameras, get speedy software and security updates directly from Google (like iPhones do from Apple), and are priced competitively. But choosing the right model can be tricky. Should you get the Pixel 6A? Or save up for the new Pixel 7?

If you do not pass either of your first two road tests, you must purchase two more road tests before you can schedule another one. The fee is $10.00 for two tests. You can pay for additional road test fees online or by phone at 518-402-2100.

Another key variable is that AR glasses are already coming to market. Many smartglasses pack the tech and the style they need for staying power in the lives of everyday consumers. And they have the potential to replace smartphones, so they stand a good chance of making AR part of daily life for most people.

Crowded malls, endless traffic, the simple lack of enough hours in the day have sucked the fun out of shopping for many of us. When it comes to clothing, accessories, and highly personal items you really want to see or try on before buying, storefronts were the only option. Luckily AR apps for retailers are changing this process too. Now, for shoppers who want to make the change, brick-and-mortar shopping will drift into the past.

You must verify any non-Twilio phone numbers you wish to send SMS messages or MMS messages, or place phone calls to while in trial mode. This is an extra security measure for trial accounts that we remove once you upgrade your account. You may verify as many phone numbers as you like.

The processes for sending messages, making phone calls, and setting up an Elastic SIP Trunk are the same for a trial account as a full paid account. However, there are some restrictions and limitations imposed while you are in trial mode.

When you sign up for Twilio, you will get a free telephone number and a freetrunk. You can fully configure this SIP Trunk for testing and placing actualcalls to and from your business. Twilio Trial accounts can take full advantageof SIP Trunking services for testing, there are a few restrictions that applyonly to trial accounts. Keep these in mind as you develop:
